Please don't laugh but I need to know if anyone has heard of an area around Norfolk that allows jets to land in a subdivison? I have a buyer coming from the area around Chicago where they have a subdivison with an airstrip for the homeowners. I have seen little Piper Cub type planes in the outer reaches of Suffolk but jets are quite another. Thanks in advance for any answers, help and so on.

Last August Suffolk held a National Night Out celebration that brought out over 5,000 citizens. Suffolk's festivities included a duck race, a party and a pep rally at Peanut Park. The police and firefighters staffed public safety booths. The national award comes the nonprofit National Association of Town Watch and selected Suffolk from a field of 294 cities. City leaders should be proud of themselves.

If it ever gets off the ground, CenterPointe, at the corner of US 58 and Holland will be huge. Over 900 acres, 5 million square feet of warehouse space and 2,700 jobs. This is a big project and citizens are mostly concerned about US 58. It is pretty much over used now and that many cars as well as the trucks to feed the warehouse is not something the citizens want. The developer, the city of Suffolk and the state are not talking about doing anything with the road.

If you don't know by now, Suffolk has reduced speed limits on five crash prone roads. The most crash zone spots are on Bennetts Pasture. The speed limit will vary from spot to spot but will be 45 mph between Nansemond Parkway and Bridge Rd. The biggest drop will be on Ferry Road from Knotts Neck Rd to the end of Fairy Rd and the speed limit will be 45 mph. Parts of Pughsville Rd, Godwing Blvd and Kenyon Rd will also see a drop in the speed limits.

Suffolk has been embroiled with an assessment problem for a while now. The last assessor decided to raise assessments of mostly waterfront properties and not by just a little. It may have been the right thing to do but it cost the assessor her job. The new assessor received over 500 appeals and dropped the assessment on 387 of them. The lowered assesments on property in Suffolk will reduce the cities tax revenues by oer $450,000. Most of the residents are happy but wished for bigger cuts.
