You really never know what is going to happen day to day as a Realtor. When your profession requires you spend hours in other people's homes without them present, sometimes, things come up. Last week, I attended a 3 plus hour inspection for my buyer's soon-to-be new home in the Mantua subdivision in Fairfax. Mantua is a beautiful area, known for its 1/2 acre lots, towering tress and lush landscaping. If you are looking for a neighborhood that feels like paradise, but is only 5 or so minutes outside the beltway, put Mantua on your list. Homes range from mid 500s to mid 800s, sometimes more. There are a variety of home styles, which also gives it charm: contemporary, colonial, rambler, and splits make it a very beautiful place and certainly never boring.
And this home fits the Mantua bill perfectly! When we got to the house, the sellers two older Golden Retrievers were there, which was fine. Goldens are known to be easy going and we all love dogs. They slept most of the time anyway. Until the inspector walked out the back door. After spending a few minutes trying to pry the, oh I don't know 80 or so pound animal out of the door, I let him go. Afterall, they do have an electric fence, and the dog was pretty slow moving, if not light weight. I called the listing agent when I noticed there was an electric fence collar hanging on the back door (oops). She suggested I lure him in with a doggie bone and directed me to their location.
So this is the reaction I got. You talking to me? You want me to do what? He does not look to impressed with the bone, or me. Judging by the look on his face, I think it must be quite annoying as a dog to endure a home inspection! After putting the bone under his nose and slooooowly backing up to the house, I got him back in.
Quite happy to not have lost a seller's dog on my watch! Nice yard, too, by the way, isn't it?
