Elizabeth Lake Estates is a well established
community of 319 homes with approximately
1/3 of the homes bordering waterways leading to
the Hampton Roads harbor with access to the
Chesapeake Bay. In 2005, Elizabeth Lake Estates
was selected as the Virginia Statewide Neighborhood
Conference "Neighborhood of the Year" in
recognition of their volunteerism. You will tour
this trailblazing community, which has led the
way, and continues to lead the way. Leadership,
innovation and a can-do spirit are the hallmark
of this neighborhood. Elizabeth Lake was the
first covenant community in Virginia and the
first to incorporate a cul-de-sac design. This
design fosters the opportunity for neighbors to
get acquainted and stay
connected. This neighborhood
blazed the trial for older
covenant communities when
it became the first in
Hampton to incorporate a
service district that allowed
association fees to be incorporated
into property tax assessments.
Tour this lovely neighborhood and see
their on-going initiatives including participation
in an oyster restoration project to clean the
waterways of the Chesapeake Bay and innovative
programs to maintain their community pool.

Fox Hill seems an odd name for a community where there are no foxes or hills but at the time the community was named, there were both foxes and hills in the form of dunes at the beach. The fascinating tour will allow you to discover both Hampton's natural beauty and visit one of our strongest, and oldest, neighborhoods. The Fox Hill community has a rich history and was once home to some of the earliest European settlers to the United States. Fox Hill is also the home of one of the last unspoiled beaches on the east coast, the Grandview Nature Preserve, 475 acres of salt marsh, tidal creeks, and Chesapeake Bay beachfront. Today, the neighborhood has grown into a nurturing community where family life flourishes and there is a deep respect for nature. A drive down Beach Road, the main street through Fox Hill, is reminiscent of a bygone era where residents still wave from behind their white picket fences. Come visit, and if the road side farm stand is open, pick up a tomato, just remember to put money in the jar !

Hampton's premier park is a 456 acre environmental education and wildlife management facility. Born from borrow pits and garbage dumps, the park is truly a success story of reclamation of our natural resources. From the 10,000 square foot nature center overlooking Sandy Bottom Lake to the elusive creatures that inhabit the wetland marshes, there is something for everyone at the Sandy Bottom Nature Park.
Below are just a few examples of a recent trip to Sandy Bottom:

Last weekend, August 8-10 2008, was the 82nd annual Hampton Cup Regatta on Mill Creek at historic Fort Monroe, Phoebus Va. The weekend features a car show, plenty of speed, vendors and a "Bash on the Bridge" overlooking Mill creek and the races. There were several classes of watercraft competing and is a fun filled family weekend.
