Haymarket, VA

The gears and wheels inside Chapman/Beverly Mill in Prince William County Virginia kept this historical mill working starting in 1724. The mills was an important part of the growth of the Shenandoah Valley. Farmers from the valley brought their wheat and corn to be ground at the mill and then it was transported to Alexandria VA where it could be sold and shipped to Europe.

The mill was the site of a strategic the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap and the mill was burned in 1862. It was purchased and restored by the Beverly family in 1876. Vandals burned the mill in 1998. The mill has been stablized so visitors can safely walk inside the mill and check out the incredible stone walls and old equipment still in place.
