About Springfield's Saratoga

Chances are you will encounter a deer or two in your yard in the Saratoga neighborhood in West Springfield (VA.) With the pockets of woods scattered throughout the neighborhood you will also see rabbits and foxes too. The wildlife is just one reason that make Saratoga a neighborhood that stays on the list of sought after West Springfield neighborhoods.

Now with the new National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) being built on the old Fort Belvoir Engineering Proving Grounds, buyers will have another reason to consider the Saratoga neighborhood. The Engineering Proving grounds are considered the "For Belvoir- East Campus" as part of BRAC and when the project is complete the NGA will consolidate an estimated 6,500 employees in one location.  Buyers who are looking for a home within a few minutes of the gates off of Fullerton Road will find Saratoga the closest neighborhood to the new building.  In fact you could easily walk from your home in Saratoga to NGIA.

NGIA not your office?   Not to worry.  If you are headed to Fort Belvoir you will be able to get there within 15 minutes.  Heading into DC?  The Lorton Station VRE is only a few miles away and the bus will take owners to the Springfield-Franconia Metro.

Shopping is easy with the newly renovated Saratoga Shopping Center just around the corner, featuring a Giant grocery store, Chipolte's and Saratoga Pizzeria to name a few.  There is a Costco for your bulk items a few miles down the road and the Lorton Station Town Center is within 5 miles. If you like to explore and get some exercise you will find not only the community pool but other Fairfax County Recreation Centers and Parks within 15 minutes.

Two of the friendly and attentive staff are pictured above. The food my family tried was fantastic!

Appetizers we tried:

Calamari: Best that I've ever had! The batter was light and crunchy, fried to golden perfection served with jalepeno and red peppers and I think there were even olives mixed in along with other spices. No need for any marinara sauce.

Chicken Satay: Any Thai restaurant must for us. We were not dissapointed with the generous size portions of meat and sauces.

Entrees we tried:

Thai Fried Rice, Chicken: Another generous portion here and very tasty.

Volcano Seafood: "Stir fried assorted seafood with fresh chili, kaffir leaves, lemongrass in tangy roasted chili sauce, served with broccoli". This dish had two peppers next to it on the menu indicating heat but, it was not as spicy as I was expecting (my wife is from India so maybe I'm getting used to spice). The seafood was obviously fresh and prepared well with various spices and a nice sauce. This was from Grandma's Recipes...someone is a lucky grandson/daughter.

For the better part of this year home prices in Northern Virginia and, most especially, Fairfax County, have steadily increased. Saratoga is a lovely, planned community and, in my opinion, this would be a beneficial time to invest in a home in Saratoga. Wills and VanMetre started construction of Saratoga in mid-1972. Many of the innovative community features they offered are still available today in most planned communities.

Commuting

• Fairfax County Connector Route 304 service to the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Station for commuting to the Pentagon, Alexandria, Washington, DC and all National Capital Area wotk centers that can be accessed by Metrorail
• Approximately 15 minutes to Fort Belvoir
• Less than 10 minutes to the Fairfax County Parkway for east-west cross county travel

Schools

• Saratoga is in the Lee High School Pyramid You can locate schools for a specific address at Fairfax County Public School Locator
• Pohick Regional Libraryis approximately 15 minutes from Saratoga
• Lorton Libraryis also approximately 15 minutes from Saratoga

Shopping

• Although there are other shopping centers within 15 minutes Saratoga Center is conveniently located in the community

Recreation

• Saratoga has its' own pool centrally located in the community
• Audrey Moore Rec Center in Wakefield Park with its year round pool and gymnasium plus a myriad of other sports and activities is within 20 minutes
• Wakefield Skate Park is also in Wakefield Park next to the Audrey Moore Rec Center
• South Run Rec Center with year round pool, exercise facilities and other activities is within approximately 10 minutes. It has a connecting trail to Burke Lake Park
• Burke Lake Parkwith golf course, camping, picnic areas, small boat rental, fishing, carousel, miniature train and ice cream parlor is approximately 10 mimutes
• Lake Accotink Park with small boat rental, fishing and picnic facilities is within 15 minutes.
• Pohick Bay Golf Course - an 18-hole public course is approximately 15 minutes
• Pohick Bay Park with boat launch to the Potomac River, camping and picnic facilities is approximately 15 minutes
• Laurel Hill Golf Course - 18-hole public is approximately 15 minutes

Additionally, it is one of the few subdivisions that has large ramblers as well as colonial, split level homes and both contemporary and traditional style town homes. Wills and VanMetre Saratoga Square has lovely rental units.
