Transportation is a big issue in every area, but especially here in the DC area. Maryland, DC + northern Virginia are all so intertwined in business and more that we need to make sure it's easy to get place to place. Unfortunately easy isn't usually a word associated with our regions transportation.
There are some things being done to address area transportation =
Maryland
- Montgomery county council recently passed a vote to promote denser development in already urban areas, with requirements that there be green and transportation friendly amenities (paths, bike trails, etc.)
- ICC = Inter County Connector is being built
- PG county is working on development of New Carrolton area
Virginia
- All along the beltway the HOT lanes program is adding 2 extra lanes on each side of the beltway (inner loop and outer loop) - from Alexandria through Tysons Corner
- Metro is being built through Tysons Corner to Reston, and eventually out to the Dulles Airport; this will be known as the Silver line
- free bus service mid-day in Tysons corner
DC
- promoting green practicies
- greener buses
Is this enough. Well no, it's never enough, but it's something. Let's keep working towards solutions to better communities. Transportation is a key issue in getting to our real estate, be it commercial or residential.

For those of us who live/play/work in and around Tysons Corner, Virginia...
Unless you’ve been in a coma for the last few years (and if you have been, my sympathies, but I’m glad you’re back), you’ve heard about the Dulles Metrorail project that is happening in Tysons Corner.
You’ve probably already sat in worse-than-usual traffic along Route 7. I didn’t think worse traffic was possible, but it turns out that ripping up the service roads did the trick. We now have lunchtime rush-hour delays. I am limited to running errands from 8pm–10pm. Sweet.
If you’re like me, you’re wondering what’s going on and what’s going to happen as the project progresses. For information, go to www.dullesmetro.com.
Here you’ll find maps (I love maps) showing the locations of future stations and recent news about the project. If nothing else, visit the site for the traffic advisories.
We’ll have to live with a few years of growing pains, but here’s hoping it makes Tysons a better place to live/play/work. Until then, sit back and enjoy the ride.

Although not known for meddling in politics, the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce is ready to get involved. The organization is creating a Public -Policy Committee to give voice to the sentiments of the groups members. The decision to create this committee comes out of awareness of the many projects planned or in the works in the Tysons Corner area. The initial focus of the group will be on two main projects: the Dulles Metro Projet and the High-Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project. Both are key parts to improving local transportation. And both will play a key role in the redevelopment of the Tysons Corner area.
