First Time Home Buyers, if the home your looken at to buy. Has a Septic System, have you wondered how drainfields are designed?

The main job of the drainfield is to purify and disperse the effluent flowing out of the Septic tank.

The size, design, and the location of a private septic system drainfield for any given home, really depends on a whole lot of things. Such as the local soil characteristics, just how much wastewater flow there will be, the slope of the ground, and the depth to the groundwater or the bedrock in the area. Now the objective is to distribute the effluent into an area with an adequate depth of suitably permeable, unsaturated soil. The drainfield needs to also be located just as far as possible away from all drinking-water wells, any streams and lakes, any steep hillsides, road-cuts, and property lines.

The specific design criteria are up to and provided by the local building or sewer codes, and they do often vert from one locality to the next. The local health department of an area, often require a permit before any work starts on a dreinfield and they frequently can give you helpful advice.

Some roof vocabulary to know:

Barge board - a boaed that conceals roof timbers projecting over gables.

Beam - a long piece of wood or even steel that supports the roof - in a group that can form a truss.

Cornice - the overhanging part of the roof, that sticks out past the walls.

Eave - this is the beam ends of the roof of the home. That creates the cornice and allow water from the roof to drip off away from the walls of the home.

Fascia - this is the edge of the cornice.

Gable - a triangular roof.

Rafter - parallel beams that support the roof. Similar to how the joists support the floors and ceilings of the home.

Soffit - this is the underside of the eave.

Truss - the framework of beams, kind of like ribs, that support the roof of the home. Usually triangular.

There sure are many different styles of roofs which accentuate different architectural types or provide a particular function. The geographical location, as well as the style, will often determine the type of roof used on a home. There are several types of roofs that are commonly used in the construction of homes today.

The flat roof - has no slope or just enough to allow for drainge, no more than a ten percent incline.

The shed roof - has only one slope to it.

The gable roof - has a gable at one or both ends and sides that slope in two opposite directions from the ridge.

The rainbow or also known as the whaleback roof - has a pitched roof with sides that have a slightly convex slope from the ridge.

The gambrel roof - is sloped in two opposite directions from the ridge, with each surface divided into two sections with different piches. The lower section has a steeper slope to the outside walls. This kind of roof is also known as a barn roof.

The mansard roof - has two slopes on all four sides of the structure, with the lower slope being the steeper of the two.

The hip roof - has four sides sloping from a center ridge, with hip rafters that extend from the ridge to the outside corners of the structure, creating sloping, triangular ends.

The intersecting roof - has two or more ridges meeting at different angles, creating hips and valleys. This is also called a hip-and-valley roof.

The dormer roof - has a projection built out from a sloping roof, often with a window in it. The projection provides added interior space, and may vary in form, having a gable roof, shed roof or another roof type that complements the rest of the home.

Something First Time Home Buyers across America-Yards can have in common!

Do you know what is silvery gray, and sometimes black little critter's, that weigh just about nothing at all. But sure can do a great bit of damage to your lawn?

Will take a look, and meet this little critter. That is on the most Wanted list, for yard damage.

Okay mugs heres the plan, lefty you take point. Digger you take care of the get away tunnel. and the yard will be ours.

Moles belong to the order Insectivora so they are insectivores, and not rodents. The major part of their diet is comprised of worms, insects and their larvae. Moles are known to require half of their own weight in juicy worms daily to survive. Upon finding a worm, they quickly pin its writing prey to the ground with its forefeet. Now with the assistance of its dexterous snout, the mole then locates the worm's head and ravenously begins to tear and swallow chunks of its juicy snack.

Moles live only for about three years, but in that short time, they sure can do a lot of incredible damage to your lawn. They can dig dozens of tunnels through out a lawn fairly quickly. They destroy the grass and that enable weeds to grow. In areas with crops, Baby Face Mole and his gang's mole holes can kill or stunt the growth of the plants.

You can try any number of home remedies that will serve as repllents and oerhaps drive them away. One common remedy is castor oil diluted with water. But do remember, although some homemade repellents may serve as a good defense for a while, the very moment they are weakened in any way, Baby Face and his gang, may reappear under your lawn quickly.

Eradicating Baby Face Mole and his gang, is not at all easy.

Many folks have tried it and failed. But don't let yourself be discouraged if your first attempts do not pan out. Just keep at it and you may just find a way to get rid of the gang that has been invading your lawn once and for all.

First Time Home Buyers - Your children, and power lines that are near trees sure don't mix!

Please never allow children to climb any trees that are in or around power lines. When you have become aware of any dangerous situation, you can call your electric utility company and they will send a crew out to trime or even take the tree down and eliminare the hazard for you. Be sure to plan ahead when you are planting a tree or threes in your yard, and locate them away from any and all power lines that are your yard. Or even plant a low growing species that will not grow tall enough to end up interfering with any power lines or creating a safety hazard.
