Lucky Leprechauns are on the loose in downtown Camas. Friday, March 2nd, 2012, from 5 to 8 PM, the Downtown Camas Association hosts "The Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt and Go Green Event."

The First Friday event features art, dining and after-hours shopping and fun. Each participating merchant will have a hidden Leprechaun someone in their shop. Find the lucky little sprite and get your passport stamped.

Once you're passport is filled with stamps, you'll be eligible for a number of prizes from green, as in eco-friendly to the color green. Each Camas Merchant will also post a list highlighting their green business practices.

Speaking of green, local restaurant chain, Burgerville USA is a proud sponsor of "The Lucky Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt and Go Green Event." Burgerville is a leader in healthy choices and is a model for sustainable business.

For those of you interested in the legend of the Leprechaun, it is a type of fairy in Irish Folklore. It's usually depicted as an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who often enjoys mischief-making.

Popular depiction shows the Leprechaun as being no taller than a small child, with a beard and hat. Busy shoemakers, they are known to hide their gold coins in hidden pots, stashed at the end of rainbows.

If ever captured by a human, leprechauns have the power to grant three magical wishes in exchange for release. According to folklore, they are not wholly good, nor wholly evil creatures.
