Forbes Creek Park, Kirkland Washington

Forbes Creek Park, Kirkland Washington

Forbes Creek Park, Kirkland WashingonTucked away in the northern part of the Highlands, is Forbes Creek Park. It exists on two sides of the road, which is unusual. Traffic is really light at this end of the Highlands, so it is not as much of a hazard as you might think.

The park consists of 2.02 acres, and has grassy area, picnic tables, children’s play area, tennis courts and a basketball court.
Children's play area
On the upper side of the street is a great play toy area for kids of grade school age. We took our one and a half year old grandson, and he was happy to run around on the sidewalk, but the play set was designed for older children. Our four year old found it challenging, but could maneuver the different parts of the playset well. There are three slides good for early elementary age. I think 8 years old and up would not find it challenging or fun.
Swings
Off to one side of the play area at Forbes Creek Park are the swings. Like most Kirkland parks, the swings are commercial grade. Strong materials securely anchored with very sturdy seating areas. There are two swings that are designed so little kids can use them, as well as adults. Two other swings have sturdy baskets for infants or toddlers. They won’t fall out, and it gives them a safe feeling as they are being pushed.

Tennis courtsThis is a friendly, low key, neighborhood park. Not ostentatious, but useful and fun.

There are lots of tall trees on the upper part of the park, with grass underneath. Away from the play set area is a grassy field that would be good for running, but it is sloped sharply, so many running games or group ball games would not work.

On the lower side of the street are tennis courts and a basketball court. The two tennis courts are fully fenced. The basket ball court is open.
picnic table
A great place to bring your children, but also a great place for teens to adults to play tennis or basketball.

Spinney Homestead Park Kirkland Washington

Spinney Homestead Park Kirkland Washington

Spinney Homestead ParkSpinney Homestead Park is composed of 6.54 acres in the Highlands area of Kirkland. It is against the I405 freeway and right next to the 100th Street pedestrian bridge. If you live in Rose Hill you can also enjoy this park.

Mostly Spinney Homestead Park is a large grassy flat bottomed bowl. There is a nice finished path all around it. Through the north end the path goes into two neighborhoods, one north Large field at Spinney Parkand one north west.

With a name like Spinney, it is completely appropriate that this large field be one of the places to play Ultimate Frisbee. This is one of the locations for DiscNW.

It would be perfect to play baseball here, and sure enough, there are two baseball diamonds. With a very large field, relatively good parking and easy neighborhood access, children's play set at Spinney Homestead Parkthis would be a great place for a group to play on a regular basis. It is one of the venues for the Kirkland American Little League, which plays from March through June each year, with some events lasting through the summer.

The field is also used by organized soccer teams.
Picnic table at Spinney Homestead Park
This is an ideal park for a leisurely stroll, a jog, or to walk a dog.

There were two dogs being walked when I was last there. To provide for this eventuality there is a dispenser with plastic bags. The title says, “Keeping Kirkland Green and Clean”. It goes on -
“Need a bag - take a bag
Happy young people at Spinney Homestead ParkExtra bags - leave them.”
“This Leave a bag - Take a bag station has been placed here to assist pet owners in removing pet waste from Kirkland parks.”
It ends with, “Thank you for being a good steward.”

A very nice children’s play set is just in from the street. It is scaled to children in grade school, I would say second grade and above. Three slides and numerous climbing configurations make up the play set. There are some unusual and challenging climbing stations that build muscle strength and dexterity.

The park was part of the Spinney Homestead, and retains the name to commemorate its roots.

When you want to chill in a large park, or watch your children play, come to Spinney Homestead Park in Kirkland.
