Art Sculptures Kirkland, WA

Art Sculptures Kirkland, WA

The city of Kirkland is without a doubt, a thriving art community. The city is host to several art galleries, art studios, and performance theatres. However, art is not restrained to these places. The city of Kirkland expresses itself with public art sculptures throughout the city. www.ilovekirkland.org

Many of Kirkland’s public art sculptures are located along Lake Washington Boulevard and the waterfront. Yes, it is true, many residents of the Eastside come to enjoy the beauty of Kirkland’s parks, waterfront, and the art sculptures. However, throughout the Moss Bay downtown and Lakeview neighborhoods of Kirkland there are a bunch of public art sculptures scattered throughout.

An easily spotted work of sculpted art can be found at Peter Kirk Park. The Gossips is an art piece created by Louise McDowell. The art sculpture is cast in bronze and features three women conversing with each other. The sculpture is located near the Teen Union Building and sits somewhat perched on a high slope overlooking the Lee Johnson Ball Field and the large children’s play area. The sculpture is unique, because unlike the other human sculptures in Kirkland, these women are sitting on the ground. Most of the human sculptures in Kirkland are seen sitting www.ilovekirkland.orgon a park bench or jumping in action. Like the bronze sculpted women, many residents of Kirkland gather on the lawn of Peter Kirk to spend time with family, friends, and pets. The sculpture is owned by the city of Kirkland.

Another loved sculpture that can be found at Peter Kirk Park is The Natural. This sculpture is of a young little leaguer. The sculpture pays homage to the legacy of Leroy Johnson, notable businessman and founder of Kirkland Little League Baseball. This statue is found on the opposite end of the park. The boy can be found behind the field between home plate and first base. The statue is made of bronze and was designed by Gary Price. The sculpture was a gift from the Johnson family.

The Storyteller is perhaps, the most hidden, unknown work of public art. Despite the fact, the sculpture is located directly across from Kirkland’s most popular park, Houghton Beach Park, most people don’t evewww.ilovekirkland.orgn know it exists. The sculpture is somewhat hidden behind overgrown plants. The sculpture is tucked away under a little garden awning. The sculpture is of two men and a children laughing and conversing on park benches. Directly behind the sculpture is a large multi plaque display of the history of the Houghton and Lakeview neighborhoods. The art piece was designed by Richard S. Beyer and is made of aluminum and steel. The sculpture was a gift presented to the city by the Stabbert family.
