Why do I love living in North Rose Hill? This has got to be the best neighborhood in Kirkland, a city that is one of the most desirable in all of Washington. North Rose Hill has a rare combination of ingredients that simmer to perfection in Kirkland. What are those factors? Let's discuss them.

Location - North Rose Hill is located centrally on the eastside of Lake Washington. It is nestled between Microsoft in Redmond, Totem Lake shopping, and downtown Kirkland and the waterfront. All of these key elements can be reached in just 5 minutes giving you the ability to work, shop and play all while hardly leaving the neighborhood.

Affordability - While the location is supreme, the prices in North Rose Hill are not, homes are still affordable here. The cost per square foot here is typically 20-30% lower than it is in comparable homes in downtown Kirkland or closer to Microsoft. The difference is even more when you get to the most expensive neighborhoods within 5 miles. There is also a broad spectrum of home choices available in the neighborhood, from older and smaller houses to higher-end new construction. This gives a diversity that some communities can lack. However, when you buy a home here you get more than a house, you get real neighbors.

Community - It is hard to see by just driving through the neighborhood that there is such a sense of community here. It is not easy to put a finger on why that is but it deserves discussion. Maybe it is the fact that Mark Twain Elementary is right in the middle and that parents and children are daily drawn there to share stories and fellowship. Perhaps it is because of events at the school and others like the North Rose Hill Annual Picnic. That is correct; every year there is a completely free picnic in the very large park that is about a block from Mark Twain Elementary. The park fills with families enjoying face painting, games, food, large bouncers and even a pie baking contest. How is this possible? The NRH secret weapon.

NRH Neighborhood Association - This group is one of the original associations in Kirkland it is anchors the residents and unites them in many endeavors. It allows discussion and planning of so many events including the picnic, neighborhood clean ups, sidewalk planning, and neighborhood improvements. It was even a starting point for building a very large children's play area and completing one of Kirkland's best parks all with donated money and volunteer effort.

When you combine this kind of community feeling and cooperation with a fantastic location and better affordability, you have a neighborhood that is a real stand out! It is a fantastic place to live!

For more information on the association visit the NRH Neighborhood Page.

Simply Amazing! Woodlands Park, Kirkland, Washington

Woodlands Park

boardwalk in Woodlands Park KirklandIt is visible from 124th Ave NE in

Kirkland. That road is an oft used north south route through Rose Hill and we have passed this park many times.

What jumps out, as you are whisking along, is this giant play structure that

looks like a castle. But it disappears quickly from view as you drive north on 124th.

One day in the summer of 2008 some friends came back from North Carolina for a visit. The gathering was slated for the gazebo in the middle of Woodlands Park.

A gazebo? In the middle of the park? The pictures were intriguing.

We attended, along with 30 other friends.

Where to park? We found a spot on NE 100th street, Kirkland, and found a walking trail entrance.

Immediately we were enveloped in forest.

We walked and we walked. Surrounded by tall trees and chirping birds!

Was it possible that we were really in the heart of Rose Hill, in the middle of a residential neighborhood?

It seemed like we were suddenly and mysteriously transported to the Alaskan wilderness.

Then abruptly - a huge clearing with neatly mowed grass.

And there stood the gazebo! Just like in the picture.

At this point we had lived in Kirkland for 19 years. And we had never seen this place. Didn’t know it even existed!

All our friends were gathering. The guests of honor were there. Greetings and hugs and laughter all around.

The food was all laid out. Each couple dug around for their paper plates, and silverware amidst the happy chatter.gazebo at Woodlands Park Kirkland Wa

We had a great time with friends. There was plenty of room for everyone.

The sun was shining and the birds were twittering.

It was a magical time.

And a magical place.gazebo close up at Woodlands Park Kirkland Wa

And the Woodlands Park, in Kirkland Washington, has had a special place in my heart ever since!
