The small town of Klickitat is located in Klickitat County in Washington State. It is a small town that was originally established in the 1800's. It used to be a mill town but the mill closed many years ago. The town is located about 30 miles north east of Hood River on the Washington side of the gorge. The Klickitat Trail is a nearly level 31 mile old railroad corridor that extends from Lyle, Washington to Klickitat, Washington. It follows the Wild & Scenic Klickitat River for 11 miles then winds it's way up through Swale Canyon. You can enjoy spectacular river and canyon views along the trail, as well as oak and pine forests,and in the spring you can view many gorge wildflowers. The Klickitat Trail Conservancy is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Klickitat Rails to Trails as a special recreational asset. A great place to take a walk or go mountain biking.
