Today there are so many manufacturers of Window Replacement; it can be difficult to choose a quality product. Of course every Window Replacement or window salesperson claims to have the best product. There are several design elements and options to look for when choosing your Window Replacement Lake City professional. Some of the elements of Window Replacement Lake City are listed below:

  • IG Units - is the number of panes of insulated glass - Window Replacement Lake City
  • Low-E - is "low emittance" coatings, which minimize thermal radiation (damaging rays) - Window Replacement Lake City
  • Low Conductive Gas Filled - Argon or Krypton - Window Replacement Lake City
  • U-Factor- heat loss rating - Window Replacement Lake City
  • SHGC Factor - amount of solar radiation (heat) admitted through a window - Window Replacement Lake City
  • VT - Visible Light Transmission - Window Replacement Lake City

The following information will take some of the "mystery" out of window terms. Window Replacement Lake City

IG Units- What is "IG" unit? Window Replacement Lake City

Today, quality windows are built around what's called an insulated glass (IG) unit. An insulated glass unit starts out as two or three individual panes of glass that are chemically bonded by a sealant to spacer bars. When comparing vinyl replacement windows, always ask about the IG unit. Because not all windows or glass are alike, you should require the highest quality and performance standards. Low-E - is it for me? Window Replacement Lake City

Low-emittance (Low-E) coatings are thin, metal or metallic oxide layers deposited on a window surface primarily to reduce the U-factor by suppressing the heat flow through the glazed window unit. Coating the inner glass surface with a low-emittance material between the glass layers, blocks a significant amount of this radiant heat transfer, which lowers the heat flow through the window. Low-E coatings are transparent to visible light. Different types of Low-E coatings have been designed to allow for high solar gain, moderate solar gain, or low solar gain. We usually recommend Low-E for any regions in your home that receive a lot of direct sunlight. One thing to remember is the windows have a slightly tinted appearance. Window Replacement Lake City

Low Conductive Gas Filled Units Window Replacement Lake City

An improvement that has been made to the insulating performance by the use of argon or krypton gas between the panes of glass. Normally, the space is filled with air or dry nitrogen prior to sealing the window panes together. In a sealed glass insulated window unit, air currents between the two panes of glazing carry heat to the top of the unit and settle into cold pools at the bottom. Filling the space with a less conductive gas minimizes this and the overall transfer of heat between the inside and outside is reduced. Window Replacement Lake City

Argon is inexpensive, nontoxic, non-reactive, clear, and odorless. The optimal spacing for an argon- filled unit is the same as for air, about 1/2 -1 inch. Window Replacement Lake City

Krypton has better thermal performance, but is more expensive to produce. Krypton is particularly useful when the space between glazings must be thinner than normally desired, for example, 1/4-inch. A mixture of krypton and argon gases is also used as a compromise between thermal performance and cost. Window Replacement Lake City

The use of conductive gas filled units has significant insulating benefits but comes at higher initial cost. Window Replacement Lake City

U-Factor - What exactly is it? Window Replacement Lake City

The rate of heat loss is indicated in terms of the U-factor (U-value) of a window assembly. The lower the U-value, the greater a window's resistance to heat flow and the better its insulating value. Winter nighttime U-values are calculated using an outdoor air temperature of 0 degrees F and outdoor air velocity of 15 mph, indoor air temperature of 70 degrees F, and air velocity of 0 mph. This is similar to the R-value that you think of when choosing insulation except a low U-factor is better, unlike R- value which the larger the number the better. Window Replacement Lake City

It is calculated as 1 divided by the R-value = U-factor. If you used this calculation R-13 insulation would have a U-factor of 0.077. Window Replacement Lake City

To convert U-factor to R-value you take 1 divide by the U-factor. If you used this calculation for the average aluminum framed window with a U-factor of 1.125, your R-value would be 0.89 Window Replacement Lake City

Good replacement windows depending upon the glazing options and low conductive gas fills range between 0.5 and .1 for the U-factor. Window Replacement Lake City

SHGC Factor - What is it? Window Replacement Lake City

Solar Heat Gain indicates the total amount of solar energy that passes through glass relative to a 1/8" (3mm) thick clear glass under the same design conditions. It includes both solar energy transmitted directly plus any absorbed solar energy subsequently re-radiated into the room. Lower values indicate better performance in reducing summer heat gain and, in turn, air conditioning loads. Your average single paned wood framed window has a SHGC of 0.98 whereas a quality replacement window will have ratings from 0.91 - 0.39 depending upon glazing options. Window Replacement Lake City

VT- Visible Light Transmission Window Replacement Lake City

The visible transmittance (VT) is an optical property that indicates the amount of visible light transmitted. The VT is a whole window rating and includes the impact of the frame which does not transmit any visible light. While VT theoretically varies between 0 and 1, most values are between 0.3 and 0.8. The higher the VT, the more light is transmitted. A high VT is desirable to maximize daylight. Window Replacement Lake City

I hope this article helped demystify the terms used when you are contemplating your new vinyl replacement window purchase. Purchasing a quality window is only a part of the equation. The installation is the largest factor of how your windows will perform. Take great care installing and insulating around your existing openings and windows to assure you receive the maximum performance possible from your new windows. Window Replacement Lake City

The Jewel of Seattle the Burke Gilman Trail

Adrian Willanger: Real Estate Agent in Seattle, WA

The original Burke Gilman trail connected Gas Works Park and Tracy Owen Station in Kenmore 12.1 miles away.

The trail was formerly owned by Burlington Northerner Railroad and was abandon in 1971 a citizen group launched a campaign to acquire the abandon railroad tracks and turn it into a non-motorized public biking and walking trail. After some opposition from residents living around the trail was overcome the City of Seattle and the University of Washington go developed the original 12.1 mile route from Gas Works Park to Tracy Owen station

Most of the original trail that follows the west shoreline of Lake Washington has been added on to extending east to Marymoor Park in Redmond and west to Ballard passing the locks and ending at Shilshole Bay. There are plenty of small pocket parks to stop for a swim or picnic or bike to Woodinville for week-end wine tasting.

The trail can become extremely busy during peak week-end hours in the summer filled with joggers, cyclist, walkers, and skaters. During week it serves as commuter trail for cyclist choosing to choose and alternative to driving into work.

Winding through many of Seattle's popular neighborhoods the "Burke" has become an extremely popular amenity for people living in the area and for future home buyers looking to purchase in one of the neighborhoods that feed into it.

Where to workout in North Seattle-

The competition for fitness club membership has increased in North Seattle with the addition of 24 Hour Fitness and the 2 year old LA Fitness joining the established Mieko's Fitness in Lake City and the Seattle Athletic Club at Northgate.

The membership fees vary depending on the amenities; such as towel service, cafes, and classes.

Monthly membership fees:

Miekos $14-18 (extra fee for Tai Chi class)

LA Fitness $39-45

Seattle Club $100

24 Hour Fitness $24-29 (opening special pricing)

I personally belong to LA Fitness and Mieko"s and they seem to cater to the same age group. On any given morning between 5-6 AM you can find the regular crowd of 75-100 people doing a wide variety of workouts at Miekos while during the same time LA Fitness has between 35-50 people spread out a larger facility.

All of the clubs offer a nice mix of classes something for all fitness and age levels. The Seattle Athlletic Club has the best café making it nice to grab a quick brand muffing and juice after a morning workout or a sandwich and soup for lunch.

It's not our disadvantages or shortcomings that are ridiculous, but rather the studious way we try to hide them, and our desire to act as if they did not exist. (Giacomo Leopardi)

We all know that we are good at some things. We aslo know there are things that, try as we might, we just can't seem to master them. The ridiculous thing is that we try to hide them from ourselves. We don't admit to ourselves what we are struggling with. you should evaluate yourself and make a list of what you are accomplished in and what are your biggest challenges? Then find someone who needs help in an area that you are strong, and have that person hlep you in the area they are strongest. Once you admit it, you will be able to fix it.
