About Lake Tapps' Tapps Island

Lake Tapps is located in Pierce County, surrounded by the cities of Auburn, Bonney Lake, Buckley, and Sumner. Originally a series of smaller lakes, Lake Tapps was turned into a large reservoir for hydroelectric power generation in 1911. The plant ceased power production in 2004, but the large reservoir and its series of dikes remains in place.

At 4.5 miles square miles of surface area, Lake Tapps has winding inlets and small islands, covering a total of about 45 miles of shoreline. There are plenty of popular fishing spots on the lake, and a large number of waterfront homes. Houses range from small fishing cabins to large custom luxury homes. While many waterfront homes on the lake are listed in the city of Lake Tapps, many will also be listed as Bonney Lake.
