It is human nature when you see an animal, you want to feed it. At Hartstene Pointe we have rules that both protect the wildlife but protect us, the humans as well.

We are blessed by the abundance of wildlife there is in Washington State and what better case in point than at Hartstene Pointe. We have;

These animals and birds are not dependent on humans for their existence and we try to keep it that way. When we feed these animals we make them dependant on a food source that is only present for the time you are present. Sunflower seeds, nuts and the like are not native to Hartstene Pointe and can mess up the fragile Eco system that makes the Pointe a desirable place to visit and live.
A danger that many do not think of is a mother protecting its young. When you or your child step between a mother and her youth, nature has instilled a protective mechanism and you don’t want to interrupt. Don’t be afraid to observe the beauty of nature.
We not only have not feed the wildlife on purpose, we must be careful that we protect them from our garbage and pet food. My kids will never forget when we were hiking, the western sunset trail, at Hartstene Pointe and witnessed a Raccoon feeding frenzy on the deck of one of the view homes, off the trail. Upon further investigation we found a pet auto feeder set to open at 5 PM every night. Nobody was home, no pets were present but 30 to 40 Raccoons were fighting and making a mess of the deck, furniture, and window screens every night until the auto feeder ran out of food.
We all appreciate nature and the animals that co- inhabit the Pointe with us. If you would be interested in purchasing property for recreation or retirement, please call or e-mail me and experience the wonders of Hartstene Pointe first hand…

Why do I want you to experience Hartstene Pointe? I believe it is still the best kept secret in vacation and retirement property in the State of Washington. My hardest job is to get people to visit for the very first time. I have heard so many excuses, I can’t remember them all.
I have been marketing Hartstene Pointe since I became a Realtor in 1999 because I only sell what I believe in. I first discovered my love for the Pointe in1992. My wife, Connie and I stumbled upon it in our quest to find an escape from everyday life. We were looking for recreation property and had visited many a venue looking to invest our money in the right place. We looked at some very beautiful areas of our state, but always found something wrong that turned us away.
We decided to give Hartstene Pointe the kid test. This scientific test is to drive as long as the kids don’t ask “Are we there yet?” (Passed)

The next questions we wanted to hear from our kids was four fold;
As the family drove home with 2 kids (9 and 11) sound to sleep in the back seat of the car, our minds were pretty much made up. Hartstene Pointe features some sort of fresh air that will put you to sleep after a day on the beach, fishing or looking for shells. I think, its magic, myself.
So, I guess the question is how do you get started? It all starts with a phone call or an e-mail to me. You have to make the time and I will make your visit worth the trip. Make sure you make an appointment; Hartstene Pointe is a gated community!
As an owner, I’ll meet you at the gate! I’ll be the one with the relaxed smile…

Finding Vacation property at Hartstene Pointe is not that difficult a task. Call me, I can set up an appointment and we can tour anytime. But before you set out, the first question you must ask yourself “Is what I like to do.” If you like to snow ski, don’t look at vacation property on a golf course. I can hear you saying “duh”.
My family set out on this quest about 20 years ago. We got the idea for looking at vacation property from our visit to Norway. All my relatives in Norway had holiday or weekend cabins. These cabins were very simple escapes from everyday life. We decided this is what we wanted, a place to escape.
We first set out to the mountains, because we liked to downhill ski. We could see ourselves enjoying a chalet in the winter time but the area offered little for spring, summer, or fall recreation.
We next headed for the Ocean Coast. The coast of Washington State is not the warm beaches of California and we found that when it’s hot at home, it was nearly frigid at the coast. This was refreshing at first but very hard to enjoy the ocean for any length of time. After Labor Day, the coast became a ghost town until Memorial Day.
My wife and I had put the money aside but failed to ask ourselves what we like to do. We sat down and wrote a list of what we enjoyed doing. Next we took out a map and discovered the word, location. In Norway, the holiday homes were all within 5 to 10 Kilometers from home because in the cold harsh winters, you need to limit your exposure to the elements. Any farther away, the cabins would not get used. We knew we could venture up to 60 miles and still get to a cabin every weekend.
My wife and I were now equipped with two very important bits to solve the puzzle. This is when we stumbled upon Hartstene Pointe. It was within an hour and a half from home by car and actually shorter if we came by boat. The list we had made of what we liked to do was all but crossed off when we drove through the gate. Hartstene Pointe not only answered our vacation property questions but also could be our retirement home.
At Hartstene Pointe we can;
· Fish

If you’re looking for an Eco friendly community perhaps Hartstene Pointe might be just what you are looking for. The community is what matters when you look for a weekend escape or retirement home. Do your neighbors want a green environment? The Hartstene Pointe Maintenance Association was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on June 12, 1970 by the Quadrant Corporation, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Inc.

At Hartstene Pointe we believe in the beauty of our environment. The Quadrant Corporation decided in the late1960s to develop a special place to reflect on all the beauty the Pacific NW has to offer. From the moment you drive through the gate you will see they succeeded.
In order to build a community of this size the planners had to deal with a hard layer of clay that would make septic systems almost impossible. The solution was a sewage treatment plant and a secondary, the first in Mason County. I can say that this is unheard of with such developments. The planners also decided to put all the wiring and utilities underground. This was an added expense that none of the other recreation areas we visited decided was important.
Hartstene Pointe also has 3.5 miles of pristine beach waterfront for owners and guests to enjoy. We all own it and protect it. My family also enjoys the over 5 miles of maintained trails that wander through the woods with awesome views of Puget Sound and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. Couple our trail system with our 3 covered picnic BBQ areas and you can walk and eat all day by the water.

Another feature that many of my clients enjoy is Hartstene Pointe’s central waste and recycling center. You won’t find garbage cans sitting by the driveways; this is very messy for those who come for the weekend. Instead we just take are trash and recycling to the center and sort the garbage from the recycled materials. No thought of hauling it home or dealing with the wildlife.
As you can see, an Eco community is not just a label. It is planned from the very start and is very much a state of mind and commitment…
Make an appointment with me and witness Hartstene Pointe for yourself. I would be proud to be your guide and agent!

Fiber optics for Hartstene Pointe, I hope so! One thing we can all be thankful for on Harstine Island is that we are serviced by a very progressive Public Utility District (PUD3). Offering fiber optics to rate payers will not only spur growth but will create or save jobs in the rural county. I also think this project will be a big draw for Buyer's who will be able to use the fast Internet speeds to telecommute to work, so, think future draw here people.
In a recent survey sent to all rate payers on Harstine Island, the PUD3 asked if we would like the Mason County fiber optic system extended to the island and to Hartstene Pointe. We, on the island are at the mercy of the two satellite TV providers and DSL Internet service. We need options!
What is fiber optic communication, you may ask? Wikipedia defines it as;
* Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is modulated to carry information. First developed in the 1970s, fiber-optic communication systems have revolutionized the telecommunications industry and have played a major role in the advent of the Information Age. Because of its advantages over electrical transmission, optical fibers have largely replaced copper wire communications in core networks in the developed world.
This may sound complicated but the only thing you have to know is fiber optics are fast, real fast...
The other option that fiber optics brings is cable TV. Hood Canal Communication (HCC) is a locally owned and operated service provider. HCC provides cable TV and can supply the PUD3 customers with package rates for far less than the big national companies. HCC has no extra charges for local stations like the 2 major satellite companies that now service Harstine Island and Hartstene Pointe. The Timberlake community across the bridge and the Spencer Lake home owners both enjoy this service and are reporting great service.
What I want to see is some competition for the Internet, Telephone and TV service on Hartstene Pointe. I think it is a real plus that the county and PUD3 have mandated only local companies are eligible to provide service on the county fiber optic network. More jobs can't hurt our local economy...
