What a fun show. Krem 2 News this morning said about 20,000 people came to Fairchild Air force Base to see the performers and various aircraft on display. It was very hot though and many people took cover in the shade under the wings and fuselage of this KC-10:
I was struck by the fact that this aircraft (Airlines flew this type of plane but they call it a DC-10) didn't seem as large up close as I had thought it might be. I've walked around the main gear of a L1011 Tristar flown by Delta Air Lines (comparable to the DC-10 in terms of size and range, and another tripple engine aircraft) and it seemed larger, but I was also 15 back then so everything seemed bigger. Anyway, the highlight of the show is seeing the Thunderbirds perform. One of the Thunderbirds pilots was born in Spokane and raised in Clarkston Washington (about 100 miles south of Spokane right next door to Lewiston Idaho) and one of our news reporters from KREM 2 News was able to get a ride ( see the video and story at: http://www.krem.com/news/Local-pilot-making-a-special-Skyfest-weekend-99148349.html )
Always a fun event and it's something aviation enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy!
