Girl Power - Evergreen Habitat for Humanity
It’s "Girl Power" at its finest as ladies raise their hammers for the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. The all-woman crew will build a 1,170 square foot Cape Cod style home on a lot donated by the city of Vancouver.
Sunday, September 11th marked the blessing of the land and groundbreaking at the site located in the Lincoln neighborhood. The benefactors, a family of four, are currently renting a small apartment for $900 a month. Their new house payment will be about $450 a month. "Woo Hoo," said the Missus at the ceremony, "I just got a raise."
Habitat for Humanity builds houses for working families and offers no-interest loans. Families must qualify and are also expected to provide sweat equity. The money for this year’s project comes from private donations and fund raising projects.

A “Women Build” project is just that, all women, from the Architects to the interior designers. Dozens of volunteers took classes at Lowes, which supports the all “Women Build” projects around the country.
An upcoming fundraiser gives Clark County residents an opportunity to pitch in. Grammy winning Guitarist Doug Smith and his wife Judy, who plays flute, will perform September 30th at the Fries Auditorium. Tickets are $20.
Donations for the Women Build project are also being accepted at the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity website and at the office. This year's project represents the first of its kind in Clark County. Let’s all support “Girl Power” as the ladies raise their hammers for the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.
