Winter Gorge Views-shades of gray

Amy McAllister REALTOR® Hood River, Oregon: Real Estate Brokerage in Hood River, OR

I haven't seen the sun enough lately around here. Even so there are still some nice views of the gorge if you're looking. I took this one Saturday looking west down the Columbia on Lincoln St. in White Salmon, WA.

This one is also looking west down the Columbia taken from the north end of the Hood River Bridge.

I took this one in Hood River County from The Bridge of the gods.

White Salmon Neighborhoods

Amy McAllister REALTOR® Hood River, Oregon: Real Estate Brokerage in Hood River, OR

If you are looking at moving to White Salmon, Washington here are some of the neighborhoods to choose from. This is my list with a brief overview of features, location, etc.

  • White Salmon Proper- I consider this the homes in the original town of White Salmon. Many of these are older homes and some that have been built on infill lots. The town of White Salmon is fairly small (population 2235) These homes are within walking distance to the library, store, town shops, park, and elementary school.

  • Pucker Huddle- Pucker Huddle is located about 2 miles NW from the center of town. It is a pretty area with many Mt. Hood views, and some locations, like Eyrie Rd. area have awesome views looking down the Columbia River & gorge. There were many homes built in the last 15 years in this location that is convenient to town. There are also older homes and farm homes in the area.
  • Strawberry Mountain- This neighborhood is located NW of town above Pucker Huddle area. One development that was started probably about 20 yrs ago has streets named Alta Vista, El Camino Real, Rio Vista, & Palos Verdes. Most of the homes in this area are located on larger sized lots .5 to 1 acre. Many of the homes are large-executive, contemporary, and craftsman styles.
  • Snowden- Snowden Rd. heads North out of town and continues climbing into the back country of Klickitat County. There is a reason it was named "Snowden Rd." Often you are "Snowed In" during the winter. Snowden Rd. is a narrow winding country road that continues to climb in elevation. There are scattered homes, farm homes on acreages, and a few orchards along the way. You can take Snowden Rd. all the way to Appleton, and come in near Lyle, Wa.
  • Northwestern Lake- This is a pretty area about 5-6 miles North of White Salmon on Hwy141 heading towards Trout Lake, Wa. There are many small rustic cabins which are on leased Government owned land. There are often a few for sale at any given time. The problem with these is that the cost of the land lease is about $5000-$6000 per year. I've seen some of the cabins listed for under $100,000 to around $150,000 or so, but the land lease cost can add a lot to the monthly payment. There are also some homes on personally owned land and property as well.

  • Wyers End- This is a new development located right in town at the top of Jewett St. This cottage development is located just three blocks from the center of town. There are both river and mountain views from these homes. They are walking distance to downtown White Salmon, shopping, post office, etc. The houses are small but have a lot of character. There are many quaint details that really set these homes apart from generic tract homes.
