A press release issued by Kim Straka, Publication Relations Chair, for Cottage Grove Kid's Park Committee on May 24th, requesting volunteers and fundraising contributions for The Cottage Grove Kid's Park. If you are interested in supporting this event, by volunteering or financial support, see below for more information.
(Cottage Grove, WI) The Cottage Grove Kid's Park is scheduled to be built on June 1-5 and they are still looking for volunteers. The five day build will require 1,000 volunteers from the community to complete the project which will be located on the west side of Fireman's Park off Vilas Road in Cottage Grove, WI.
Volunteers shifts are:
To volunteer and sign up for a shift(s) please contact info@cgkidspark.org or call Gina at 608-839-5791.
The playground will have an enchanted forest theme that includes tree houses, gnomes, a castle, a rock climbing wall and a pirate ship to name a few of the unique items that will make the playground so special. The playground will also be partially handicapped accessible. The Cottage Grove Kid's Park is 501(c)(3) and all donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made payable to Friends of Fireman's Park.
The new playground has been organized and will be built completely by volunteers, and funded solely through fund raising efforts. The project is approximately $30,000 short of its total fund raising goal which is needed in order to build the complete design based on input from the children at Cottage Grove Elementary and Taylor Prairie schools. So far about $140,000 has been raised to fund the community built playground.
Besides raising the final amount needed to build the playground, The Cottage Grove Kid's Park Committee is recruiting volunteers. The five-day, 1,000-volunteer effort will be led by two consultants who will oversee the project and direct the 14 volunteer captains who will lead the construction and help to guide other community volunteers. The captains have committed to working full days for all five days of the build. All other volunteers need only commit to a four-hour shift.
To volunteer for the build, no construction skills or experience are needed. Meals will be served to all volunteers following a shift, and there will also be childcare available for children ages 2-9. Kids 10-13 years old can work right alongside a parent, and kids 14-17 can work independently, but cannot use power tools. The childcare will have several professional childcare providers supervising , and a wide variety of organized activities and special guests planned, such as visits from the Cottage Grove Fire Department and Henry Vilas Zoo.

Yes its that time of year Again. The Madison Wisconsin Polar Plunge. For those of you who have never heard of it it is basically a bunch of us jumping into the water of a frozen lake after they have cut a big hole in it.
