2 days till the first day of winter. There is something wrong with this picture. Compared to last year this is like January, here in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Woke up, waited then decided to go out and shovel before the snow broke the shovel. Neighbors came out and helped neighbors, rum cake was distributed along with coffee and Christmas cookies. I even gave one neighbor who had a dog, a box of home made doggie treats as a thank you for helping me finish the last 15 feet of my 130 ft. driveway.
The usual banter between neighbors who had shovels, snow blowers and those with the lawn tractor converted to plows drifted back and forth throughout the neighborhood. Along with colossal groans when the plow trucks would come through and plow us all back into our driveways. Took a break, went in and watched the Milwaukee airport close down over 300 flights and they are not reopening till 5pm. What a ripple affect this storm is going to have on everyone across this nation for holiday family visiting. I watched as 1 naval boot camp cadet was actually given a flight on the next one out so she could visit her family for Christmas and then go off for her tour. She was so happy, she said it would be the best Christmas ever.
We should count ourselves lucky as from our wooded subdivision, the snow isnt blowing and drifting across like most of the rural highways here in Walworth County. Looks like we received 10 inches by 8 am. Still snowing, but tapering off till tomorrow night where we should receive another 3 to 6 inches. The grandkids are out playing trucks and bulldozers in the 6ft snowbanks and dusk is finally settling in. Exhausted, time to make hot chocolate and take a few Advil.
Ahh, the neighbor guys just called and want Hubby to come on over for a few beers and a cigar in one of the heated garages down the street. Male bonding at its finest. I will just continue on with the holiday baking and listen to some oldie but goodies Christmas songs.

Here we go again. Another 12 inches or so of snow expected by tomorrow afternoon. Whoopee, if your a kid. Ah, Cr-p if you have to shovel. Oh well, tis the weather in Wisconsin. Close your eyes and it will change. Nothing stays the same here.
I went shopping yesterday for neighbors and a few clients that I knew would not make it out in time before the storm hits. We are bedded down and waiting for the enemy. OK, some people actually love this stuff, cant wait to play in it. That would include adults. Snowmobiling, Ice Sailing, Ice Skating, Sledding, Downhill Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, etc.
I will wait till tomorrow, try to force the door open and start a tunnel to the driveway. From there, clear the driveway and sidewalks and porch. After that, if I can see over the snow piles, I will check out the neighbors. If I cant see them, I will listen. Sound travels real well when amplified over snow drifts.
If the neighbors need help, so be it. But everyone in Wisconsin helps each other out. We don't need an attack on the United States to know what is right or wrong as a fellow human being. You just do it. If I don't see anything moving next door, I might have to break out the hot chocolate and rum cake and head to the neighbors just to make sure they are all-right.
Well, better get some rest, going to be a long weekend here in God's country.
