A lesson learned, or was it? Laura S. Baker, Ready? Set,...Sell! Home Staging & ReDesign, Jefferson County, Dane County, Waukesha County, WI

A lesson learned, or was it?

As a professional stager, like other professions, there are certain tools that are a must to keep in your vehicle at all times. Now, I am not really on call 24/7 (of course not,... right?), however; there is occasionally an exception!

I am driving home from a family event and one of my most favorite brokers calls me. Now this particular broker will go above and beyond. If she calls me, I am there! Anyhow, she is putting her home on the market and would I be able to stop by and help.

Well, what do you think I said?

Of course! I am on my way.

So, dressed not quite appropriately to work (heals are not great for moving furniture), and without my tool kit, and without the most important tool of all,.... my camera I drive over.

Let this be a lesson to me!

We dug right in! The job went well, we finished the entire house in two days (other than a small list I left for her) and on the market the home went. I got paid and off I went.

So,... what's the problem?

I have no before photo's for my portfolio and I am at the mercy of the broker for the after photo's. Now, it's not that her photo's are bad. But as a professional stager Real Estate Photography is one of the things I have to know, and these are not what I would have taken. On top of that, one of my favorite rooms was missed completely. This is all I have to show for two days work. These two photo's are of the same room;

Let that be a lesson to me!

It was an exciting couple of days. And even though I cannot normally just swing by and go to work at the drop of a dime, as my schedule cannot usually accommodate that.

I did learn an important lesson;

Keep your tool kit,

a spare set of work clothes and most importantly,...

your camera on you!

After all, the photo's in the MLS will either drive traffic to your home

~ or ~

cause buyers to just "click" on to the next property!

You just never know when you may need to capture a moment,..

or a job!

A Mother's Day Gift From My Garden to You.

Laura S. Baker, (920) 728-4118, Realtor ~ First Weber Group: Home Stager in Jefferson, WI

A Mother's Day Gift From My Garden to You!

Finally, spring has sprung and we have been blessed with a warm sunny Mother's day!

My garden is full of color.

There is every shade of yellow and orange in my daffodils,.... tulips in orange, burgundy, cream, and pinks.

Grape hyacinths and soon the smell of lilacs will explode.

I love the flowers in my gardens (well, actually I simply love flowers).

Since it is Mother's Day,

I wanted to share them with all of you.

Happy Mother's day.

This is the garden path where I will play.

Kristine Ginsberg, Michael Thornton, and William Johnson,...

thank you so much for all you've taught me!

I am not photographer yet, but I am learning so very much thanks to you three.

Sending you all a special Mother's Day Hug today!

Take It Off In The Rain, What's working for me.

Roger Mucci (aka; Sir Rog ~ I call him this not because of the Raj ma hall, or because of the fun we've had with Lady Val, but because of the love and respect I have for him ~ although these days he looks like "adorable Rog" with his new profile photo!). Anyhow, he formed a group last September called;

Take It Off In The Rain!

Today he wrote a post called;

This is one post I'll never get tired of writing!

If you haven't subscribed to him yet, you are missing out! He has heart, he is witty and even down right sassy at times. He has a wonderful world of life stories that will keep you facinated and I have met the most wonerful people here in the rain, through him! If you are lucky enough to become one of his friends you will be bless for life!

Now, for my response;

I made the decision last September to change several areas of my life by the time I turn 50 this coming October. One of the areas of my life that I am focusing on is my health. Many of you know, my mom died from not taking care of her health on her 50th birthday. I am determined to really begin to LIVE when I turn 50!

I joined Roger's group Take It Off In The Rain! and in all honesty, you all are very much responsible for being my inspiration! Susan, Sharon and Kristine have all shared many healthy recipes and exercise ideas. So many others have been our cheerleaders helping us along as we work towards our goals. Giving us support or a good old fashioned kick in the pants when needed. Each member, spectator or team mate has contributed to my loss, which has also been my gain!

What is working for me,...

the sunrise! It feeds my morning walks (forty five minutes every morning at 5:30 a.m.).

Weights, I work a different set of mucsles daily with weights rotating days; shoulders, biceps/triceps, shoulders/back using a pyramid system of weight incriments. To shrink the rest of my body (yeah pear shaped) I use high reps and low or no weights daily. Always taking day four off!

Diet, someone special said to me the word die is in diet for a reason. This is true! If you don't listen to what your body needs and you try fad diets, well,... ain't gonna help you! So,.. I listened to my body. I don't like much fruit and, sugar and I do not get along,.... So I dropped my sugar down to 15 grams per day! Sounds drastic, but I already eat that way kind of naturally. The only time I go over is when I have a little too much red wine or I break down and eat some dark chocolate covered strawberries! This is my favorite reward for every 20 lbs. So what do I eat? LOTS! :)D

These are the foods of choice for me;

Berries, red, black, boysenberry, blueberry and an occasional strawberry.

Fats, only real fats! Butter, 1/2 & 1/2, Real Mayo & my personal favorite Olive oil.

Meats,.. lean as possible limiting my red meats to once or twice a week. And I LOVE a good steak! I also like nuts and hard cheese. Pretty simple stuff here!

Lots and lots of vegies! Since I do not like fruits, I try to eat a rainbow of VEGIES each day! Did you know there is more vitamin C in red, orange and yellow peppers than in an orange? Best part is a whole lot less sugar! This doesn't mean I never eat fruit? Nope, just not my first choice. And I'll add some more back as I get to my goal.

Breads & Grains,... now this is the tough one. I love baked potatos,... but I eat them rarely. I try to limit my breads and grains to only a couple of servings a day and they are usually low carb and whole grain.

My favorite snacks are lettuce wraps;

1 large leaf of cold crisp romaine lettuce
Thin layer of mayo
Sliced turkey or chicken

and if I get a craving for sweets;

1/4 cup chopped walnuts
tsp dark chocolate chips
That's my way to have a healthy candybar!

If I want I'll have a glass of red wine or two squares of dark chocolate.

If I really want something that is plain naughty,...
I have learned to just eat it and enjoy it very slowly, savoring every moment of it, without guilt! Fortunately with all the walking I don't desire the naughty stuff very often. Okay, that is what is working for me.

Oh yeah, lots of H2O!!!

Hope it helps you if even in the slightest way.

That's it in a nutshell! Yeah, nuts are really good for you so if you know a few nuts,... keep them around!
