Whistle Stop Worth a Stop

My wife and I had a delicious lunch at this quaint, unique cafe. Fabulous corn chowder and a delicious ham and cheese on chiabata with a spicy mustard. Terrific ambiance, service, in a lovely old small town downtown. We're going back!

This is the review I read when I looked up the Whistle Stop on the Internet. I took the morning off from my Middleton real estate activities and went to Mazomanie to see my friend Julia Martin. The restored downtown area is just darling with attractive storefronts. A gallery night was a happening that evening. all of the art studios were open for browing and early holiday shopping opportunities.

I do not know Julia's official title but she makes all the soups (navy bean and ham was the featured soup on Saturday).

The atmosphere is xhrming and keeps to the Whistle stop theme for which it was named. But the bakery case draws you in. Julia had plates of samples on top of the case and MmmMmm were they mouthwatering morsels! This picture does not do it justice. How do you chose what to have with a cup of coffee? I went with a muffin after sampling and it was the BEST BLUEBERRY MUFFIN I HAVE EVER HAD! Truly. Just crowded with bllueberries and a sugary topping. I selected a rasberry scone to go but it did not make it to lunchtime, I have to tell you.

You should see the minature train set up next to the lunch counter. It is a complete village with every detail except people.

Julia also brings in fresh produce from her huge garden and puts up dilly beans, homemade salsa, bread and butter pickles.
