Watertown, WI

In towns across America this time of year, you will start to see graduations. In Watertown, WI there are quite a few to pick from, from the seminary at Maranatha all the way down to the kindergartens around town. I find it interesting that the town that started the first kindergarten has so many today. Indeed, kindergarten graduations are the best to watch! There are many people who like to go and watch the graduations just for the fun of it, and if you are one of those then I suggest a smaller private school graduation. It is amazing to see the child who goes into kindergarten unable to read or write, and devoid of any social skills, come out 9 months later and have changed so much! For many of them, it is the first time they have been involved in a ceremony and to watch them try to do their best is a wonderful thing. Yes, if you are going to go see a graduation this year make it a kindergarten graduation!

Each year my wife and I talk about putting in garden, but every year we put it off till it is too late. This year, we got a head start and got it going before the lawn even needed to be mowed. We started digging, and boy was I surprised to find what laid just under the grass! The ground here is the most amazing black earth I have ever seen! It has tons of organic material and is filled with worms. My grandmother, who grew up on a farm in Georgia,was nearly drooling over the ground and the possibilities of what it could grow. We started the seedlings in the kitchen, and should be planting them in the next few weeks. The one issue we have in Watertown is bunnys, of course! For $35 I've made a state of the art bunny fence around the whole 25'X15'garden, which should solve that. We are all set for a wonderful growing season. I can't wait to taste the first batch of salsa that comes out of this amazing Watertown soil!

Spring is here, the sun is out, and the grass needs to be cut. This is an amazing time in Watertown. A time to get out in the yard and make things come alive! One problem, though: dandelions! The scourge of all lawns across America!

When I saw the yellow heads of the enemy popping out from their camouflage bunkers I knew I had to act fast. The future of the whole lawn hung in the balance! Both of my immediate neighbors have fought this war in past years and have won. For some reason, the guerilla warfare in my country has never been stopped. I blame the traitor that still likes the little devils (my wife). She seems to think they are beautiful, and I think the word has spread to all dandelions throughout Watertown! For this reason, my castle is besieged by this pestilence.

This year, I have asked for a flood of reinforcements to once and for all conquer this age long battle. I started with a pre-season weed and feed to bomb the whole yard, praying this would keep them from gaining a beachhead on the lawn. However, I knew this would not stop all of them. Once I spotted the telltale of little saw-tooth flags starting to claim their territory, I knew I had to bring out the snipers. For 3 days now I have walked the lawn twice a day spraying each head that dared to rise in defiance to my law. It is truly a wonderful thing to see them shriveling by the next day.

They are a persistent foe, but I will overcome. The country of Lawn will once more be a land of peace and lush, green tranquility!
