National Museum of Wildlife Art hosted its public reception yesterday evening for their major summer exhibits including the Lorax, original works of Dr. Seuss. Sponsored by Graham4.
"The Lorax: Original Illustrations by Dr. Seuss05/09/2009 - 09/07/2009This exhibition will present a combination of original sketches plus camera-ready drawings created by Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, for the publication of his acclaimed book, The Lorax. In Dr. Seuss' own inimitable style, The Lorax includes a variety of fantastical wildlife species such as Brown Bar-ba-loots, Humming-Fish, and Swomee-Swans. Seuss was not one to shy away from contemporary topics or social commentary. The Lorax is among his most pointed, taking to task a company whose greed causes grave environmental harm. This exhibit combines original art as it probes humanity's relationship with nature, making a perfect match for the National Museum of Wildlife Art. This exhibition is on loan from the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library & Museum.Look at what one Teton Science Schools Journeys School teacher had to say:"When debriefing the experience with the kids this morning, they continually remarked about how special they thought it was that they got to see Dr. Seuss' original drawings (both in color and ink). They loved seeing the process of how a book is made and loved investigating the changes that were made throughout the writing & publishing process. From an educational and artistic standpoint, it is such a valuable exhibit with so many lessons to teach. The exhibit opened the door for a conversation about the revision process we use in school in our writing and how even the most famous authors go through multiple drafts. It is so important for kids to see that nobody creates something that is "perfect" the first time around-we all have to work through our mistakes and multiple drafts to get it right! I hope that the museum will bring more exhibits that highlight the creative process and the finished product the way that this does. It's my new favorite National Museum of Wildlife Art exhibit!""

Jackson Hole held its annual Fourth of July parade which is always a signature event. The streets were packed to watch the parade that featured classic cars, horses, floats, fire trucks, and of course clowns. The classic cars got my vote and my favorite was our own David Nevilles from Jackson Hole Real Estate Associates (Cobra convertible wasn't bad either). The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort had a float with the old tram car on it and someone even entered a mock tram float (below). The tradition of the floats and vehicles tossing candy and necklaces to the crowds is always a hit with all the kids. This is such a great community event and really one of the many things that makes Living in Jackson Hole so enjoyable. This afternoons Music In The Hole event put on by the Grand Teton Music Festival starts the evening fun which is topped off by the annual fireworks show at Snow King. Check out a couple of photos I snapped from the iPhone.

Yesterday was the highly anticipated opening of the Tom Fazio designed Shooting Star golf course in Jackson Hole. I spoke with a friend who played one of the coveted first rounds yesterday morning (why didn't he invite me?) and he said the course was, in a word, spectacular. I got a chance to drive some of it with the GM Mark Aulerich last year as part of a Realtor open house. Keep in mind the course was still partially under construction and it looked incredible then. This is an excerpt from my write up after touring the course last Fall:
"The really nice thing about this course design is that you don't feel like your playing amongst houses like some golf course developments. The real estate components were all clustered near the main clubhouse or to the south and west of the course. Its a very open design and once on the course you actually feel like your not close to any development. The views, of course, are stunning, with the Tetons in the background and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort adjacent to the course.
Tom Fazio is one of the top 5 course designers of all time and he has really worked his magic on this beautiful course. There is a massive 35 acres lake on the course and on 13 of 18 holes, water comes in to play. The practice facility is one of the most unique I've seen with bunkers scattered in the distance that make you feel like your hitting a shot in one of the fairways. There will also be a high-tech training facility for those dedicated to perfecting the art of the swing. The Club House boasts a massive 40,000 square feet and will include dining facilities, men's and women's locker rooms, a spa and a 2,400 square foot athletic club. The adjacent activity barn will have fun stuff for the whole family to enjoy including a home theater room and separate facilities for parties and catering events."
Now I've been promised a round by my friend when he gets back in town next week so I'll have more to say about the play and hopefully some pictures to post. For more information on this and the other great golf courses to play in the area visit the golf page on my website at:
